Imagery & Data Sourcing

If you do not have imagery for your site, you do not need to capture it yourself. AirWorks can source it for you as part of your project.

When to use this

Use imagery sourcing when you have a defined area of interest but no usable data — or when the data you have does not meet Input Data Requirements. If you already have an orthomosaic or point cloud that meets spec, upload it and skip this page.

What we can source

Aerial imagery — high-resolution orthomosaic imagery from Nearmap and EagleView, covering most populated areas of the US. This is the default option and covers the majority of AEC and telecom projects.

Satellite imagery — wide-area coverage for large corridors, portfolio-scale work, and recurring monitoring programs where aerial capture is not practical. Available as archive imagery or as a new tasked collection.

Drone and mobile capture — for sites needing survey-grade resolution or ground-level detail, we can arrange capture through our partner network, including LiDAR and panoramic scan data.

Not sure which fits? Tell your AirWorks contact the accuracy you need and the size of the area, and we will recommend a source.

How to request imagery in Automate

  1. Create your project and draw or upload a KML of your area of interest.

  2. From the Project Details sidebar, click Check Imagery Availability. We check Nearmap and EagleView coverage over your area in a single step, so you see what is available from both.

  3. If imagery is available, click Request Imagery and select your projection.

  4. Go to Checkout, select the bundle, add-ons, and deliverables you want, then Save Estimate. This step is required — the request is not submitted until the estimate is saved.

  5. You will get a confirmation email. Once the imagery is uploaded to your project, your order submits automatically.

A note on "Begin Processing Immediately": checking this box starts your order as soon as imagery lands, without giving you a chance to review it first. Leave it unchecked if you want to inspect the imagery before processing begins.

What to expect

  • Timing. Archive imagery is typically available within a business day. Newly captured imagery takes longer, and in some cases a capture that shows as available may take several weeks to be processed and published by the provider. If your project has a hard deadline, flag it before you order.

  • Cost. Imagery is priced separately from extraction and appears in your estimate before you commit.

  • Licensing. Sourced imagery is licensed for use on your AirWorks project. Some sources require you to accept a data use agreement before you can download the imagery itself.

No coverage over your site?

Coverage gaps happen, especially in rural areas and over recent construction. Your options:

  • Task a new collection through us

  • Capture the site yourself — read Input Data Requirements before you fly

  • Have a partner fly it — ask your AirWorks contact for an introduction

Coming soon, you will also be able to place an order with just your boundary and let us handle imagery acquisition. See Ordering With Just a Boundary.
